The pharmacists who want “freedom of conscience” to refuse to fill legal prescriptions for women seeking contraceptive devices are no different from the diner owners who wanted “freedom of conscience” not to serve blacks.
Jon Carroll, columnist for the San Francisco Chronicle April 25, 2005, requoted in What Liberals Believe, page 38, edited by William Martin
P.S. From Jeneane Behme: In 2015, Kim Davis, a Rowan County Clerk in Kentucky, also used this same, tired, pathetic “freedom of conscience” as a reason to not do her job and issue marriage licenses to gays and lesbians.
People do not have a right to a job, and they do not have a right to use their job or position to force their personal religious beliefs onto others. Their customers, clients, patients, etc., have the greater right to expect the same professional service and products that would be given to the people who are of the same like mind as the ones who attempt to claim “freedom of conscience”.
People, it is SO simple! Whatever religious views you hold, whatever deity or godheads you worship and revere, that is great, you have the right to hold those views and worship whomever you want….BUT YOU DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO IMPOSE YOUR RELIGIOUS VIEWS ON OTHER PEOPLE!!!
Kim Davis needs to quit her job as county clerk since she cannot fulfill all of the duties she was elected to perform. The laws of the land have a higher merit than her personal religious beliefs and if her job and her beliefs clash, then either she gives up her beliefs or she gives up her job. Period. End of story.
Thank you.
